Unclaimed deposits are funds in savings, current, or fixed deposit accounts that have remained inoperative or dormant for 10 years or more.
Where Do They Go?
As per RBI guidelines, these deposits are transferred to the Depositor Education and Awareness Fund (DEAF) maintained by the Reserve Bank of India.
Even after transfer to DEAF, your funds remain yours and can be reclaimed at any time.
How to Claim Your Unclaimed Deposit
Follow these steps to reclaim your funds:
- Visit Your Home Branch: Go to the Harco Bank branch where your account was maintained.
- Submit a Written Request: Provide a written application for the claim.
- Provide KYC Documents: Submit updated Know Your Customer (KYC) documents (Identity Proof & Address Proof).
- Proof of Account Ownership: Present your passbook, fixed deposit receipt, or any other document proving your ownership of the account.
- Verification & Credit: The bank will verify your details and credit the amount to your active account.
If the account holder is deceased, the nominee or legal heir can claim the funds:
- Visit the Home Branch: Go to the Harco Bank branch where the deceased's account was maintained.
- Submit Claim Form: Fill and submit the specific claim form for deceased accounts.
- Proof of Relationship: Provide documents proving your relationship with the deceased account holder (e.g., Death Certificate, Legal Heir Certificate, Succession Certificate, Nomination Proof).
- Your KYC Documents: Submit your own Identity Proof and Address Proof.
- Verification & Credit: The bank will verify the documents and process the claim, crediting the amount to your account.
